Otoplasty

An otoplasty, or ear surgery, is performed to move ears closer to the head that are disproportionately large or protruding. This procedure can also rebuild ears for those lost due to injury, or correct lop ear, cupped ear, and shell ear. In the most common otoplasty a surgeon will make a cut in the back of the ear and remove skin to see the ear cartilage. The cartilage is folded which reshapes the ear and brings it closer to the head. Most surgeons will nbot perform an otoplasty until the ear growth is complete, which is typically at age five or six.
